Hampton: Civil War slingshot? Comments

So will the big win over Oregon carry over into the second half of the Pacific-10 Conference season for the Oregon State men’s basketball team?

The 62-42 win was the result of a complete game by the Beavers. The 1-3-1 zone had the Ducks reeling and OSU’s offense (don’t call it the Princeton offense in front of coach Craig Robinson — it’s the Oregon State offense) was clicking.

The 20-point win was evidence of what the Beavers are capable of when they put both areas together.

The next step for OSU is to ride that wave of momentum into this weekend and beyond.

“There could be (a carry-over) and we’re hoping that there is. I think that the real carry-over I’m noticing is in the couple of practices we’ve had since that game. Historically, when we’ve had games like that, the first couple of practices afterwards are sort of like, ‘Oh, yeah, we’ve got it figured out.’ These guys have been like businessmen the last couple of days. Which is a good sign. It’s not the sign, but it’s a good sign,” Robinson said.

No Pac-10, but we have Cornell!

While the Pac-10 is still begging for a vote in the top 25 polls, the Ivy League is represented with Cornell at No. 22 in the USA Today/ESPN poll.

Robinson said he thinks Cornell will win a game in the NCAA tournament.

The Pac-10, of course, lost quite a few players to the NBA.

“I think that this year we’re suffering from a huge exodus of really good players, some of whom the teams were prepared for them to leave, others were not,” Robinson said. “ So that sort of puts us in a jam from a getting to the NCAA tournament, being ranked, getting votes standpoint.”
