Hampton: Robinson unhappy after loss Comments

There just wasn’t anything nice to say after Oregon State’s 59-35 loss at Stanford on Thursday night.

And Craig Robinson wasn’t pulling any punches in his postgame radio interview with Mike Parker.

Robinson was unhappy with his team’s effort. The Beavers were outrebounded 38-22 and scored 13 points in the second half.

“To my staff’s credit, they put a lot of work into absolutely everything they do and this was disrespectful to my staff, it was disrespectful to the fans, it was disrespectful to Oregon State,” Robinson said.

“I’m not taking myself off the hook, either. I’m going to have to really examine the way we’re doing things with these guys because they seem like they’re afraid to be good. Being good is a function of hard work and it’s easy for guys to think that last year they capped out on how hard they worked and don’t realize that you have to work even harder this year.

“So we’re going to have to make some changes. We’re going to have to put some guys in there who have some energy.”

Robinson wondered if his veterans are just happy with the run through the College Basketball Invitational at the end of last season.

“I’m hoping that our veteran players aren’t just content with what they accomplished last year and are looking to sort of ride into the sunset,” he said. “That’s something that we’ll have to examine over the next week or two. Because we have a lot of basketball to play and to have such sweet memories here last year to be torn down that quickly, I don’t think we as a team understand how demoralizing that is.”
