Hampton: First stop, Stanford Comments
The Beavers head to Stanford Thursday evening and will play in another classic basketball venue, Maples Pavilion.
Maples was build in 1968 and underwent a $30 million renovation in 2004, but holds 7,392 and has that cozy feel basketball fans love.
OSU coach Craig Robinson certainly enjoys playing in those buildings.
“I am a big fan of places that are naturally made for basketball and not other things like concerts and hockey, these bigger NBA-type arenas, because the intimate atmosphere makes it a more rowdy place to play a basketball game,” Robinson said.
“You think about Cameron, you think about Maples, you think about Welsh-Ryan at Northwestern and you think about Gill. You think about Mac Court. They are great places to have a basketball game. So it’s hard for the visiting team to come in and do well because the fans are right on top of you.”
Robinson will enjoy the experience even more if the Beavers are able to take a win at Stanford. OSU did it last year after winning at Cal, but both teams will be ready and waiting this season.
“We were fortunate enough to have some success last year and hopefully we can repeat it again this year,” Robinson said.
