Hampton: Bay Area trip for Beavers Comments

The Beavers return to the site of their big Pacific-10 Conference sweep this weekend with games at Stanford and California.

Last year, coach Craig Robinson returned from Barack Obama’s inauguration and led OSU to two wins in the Bay Area.  It was an eye-opener for the team and for college basketball observers.

It was also the weekend that Roeland Schaftenaar found his game. Schaftenaar scored 22 points against Cal and 18 against Stanford.

The Beavers will need more big performances out of Schaftenaar, starting this weekend. He had a slow start this season but seems to be coming around.

“You can never tell, but I’m hoping that his confidence level has returned to where it was at the end of the season last year,” Robinson said. “And from what I can see in practice, it is. He’s taken a more aggressive role in practice too.

“To his defense, he had been, at the beginning of the season, nursing a very bad sprained ankle and he’s just getting back to where that ankle is back to operational functionality. So I’m hoping that this is just the beginning of him moving back to where he was at the beginning of the season last year.”
