Hampton: Robinson at a loss over loss Comments

Craig Robinson was at a loss after Oregon State’s 63-61 loss at Illinois-Chicago.

The Flames were 1-6 going into the game and the Beavers went in and committed 19 turnovers, including several during the final moments.

It was the type of game the Beavers typically managed to win last season. Not this time.

“It seems that we only start playing when we’re up against the wall,” Robinson said after the game. “We have been trying to break that culture of absolutely having to play from behind and it’s tiresome. We might have to make some changes in the lineup. I don’t know what we have to do. We might have to go back to the drawing board and see who we can put in the game who’s not going to turn the ball over because you can’t win a game with 19 turnovers.”

Robinson pointed to the Beavers’ lack of toughness compared to last season.

“I’m hoping it’s not because I’m trying to treat them like professionals or guys who are expected to win at practice. I don’t know what it is,” Robinson said. “It’s not being physically tough, it’s being mentally tough. So it really shouldn’t matter what you’re history is. You just either are tough or you’re not and you either have an ability to play tough or you don’t have an ability. We did not show any evidence of toughness down the wire.”
