Hampton: Rough start to season Comments

There isn’t much good that the Oregon State men’s basketball team can take from Friday’s loss to Texas A&M.

It was bad from beginning to end. Coach Craig Robinson said the team felt too much pressure from the high expectations placed on them for this season. Maybe so. But the Beavers need to get over it, and fast.

They need to make their free throws, hit the open man and make the open shots and stop turning the ball over.

If there is just a sliver to be taken from the game, it’s that the Beavers seemed to be their own worst enemy. Not to take anything away from the Islanders, but the Beavers pretty much shot themselves in the feet time and again.

They did have some tough losses early on last year, but those lessons should have been learned with everyone back (with the exception of Rickey Claitt).

There’s a lot to clean up, but the Beavers can get headed in the right direction with a good outing on Saturday against South Dakota and Sunday against Texas Tech.
