Hampton: Second exhibition game Comments

The Beavers had a little bit of a test from Western Oregon on Saturday, managing a 75-55 win over the Wolves at Gill Coliseum in a game that was tougher than the final score indicates.

OSU coach Craig Robinson wanted the Beavers to get more of a learning experience out of this game with the regular season starting on Friday.

“What you can take from it is that we were trying to do some different things before we were getting ready for the season. So I’ll take more than half the blame for the way we played. I was trying to make it as stressful as possible because it’s going to be hard going forward. If we had won by 50, that could be worse than winning by 20. I think I accomplished that.”

Players such as Kevin McShane, Joe Burton, Chris Richard, Daniel Deane and Lathen Wallace all got in early in the game as Robinson was working on setting a rotation.

“We’re still trying to figure out who’s going to be in that rotation, so it’s good to be able to show guys that spots not guaranteed,” Robinson said. “Not yet.”
