Hampton: Beavers picked fifth Comments
Thursday was Pacific-10 Conference basketball media day in Los Angeles and the media poll was released.
The Beavers were picked to finish fifth this season, with Cal winning the title.

LOS ANGELES–The CALIFORNIA Golden Bears are picked to finish first in the 2009-10 Pacific-10 Conference Men’s basketball race, according to a poll of media members who cover Pac-10 men’s basketball.
The poll shows that California, which returns four starters and 94 percent of its scoring from last season, gathered 24 first-place votes and is picked the favorite this season. The Golden Bears were picked to win the league title one other time – the 1993-94 season. WASHINGTON, the defending Pac-10 champion, picked up seven first-place votes and is tabbed for second place. UCLA, which picked up the remaining five first-place votes is slotted for third place. ARIZONA edges out OREGON STATE by three points for the fourth slot. OREGON comes in sixth, followed by ARIZONA STATE and WASHINGTON STATE. Rounding out the preseason poll is USC in ninth, followed by STANFORD.
