Hampton: Power Poll Comments
Pac-10 Power Poll
1. Oregon (4-1, 2-0): The Ducks have rolled through their competition at Autzen Stadium and are one of the hottest teams in the country after their season-opening loss at Boise State. But there are questions about this team. Can they win on the road? Can they win without Jeremiah Masoli?
2. Stanford (4-1, 3-0): The Cardinal have become the throwback team of the conference. Stanford relies on a grinding ground game and physical play to win. A big test waits in Reser Stadium this Saturday.
3. USC (4-1, 2-1): It looks like the Trojans are hitting their stride, on defense, anyway. They have a bye this weekend before heading to South Bend for the annual game against Notre Dame. Expect USC to come through and keep moving up.
4. Arizona (3-1, 1-0): The Wildcats look on the brink of making some noise in the conference this year. They’ve already defeated OSU in Corvallis and have another big road game at Washington this Saturday.
5. Oregon State (3-2, 1-1): Is this the team that went into Tempe and took out Arizona State or the team that’s on a two-game home losing streak? OSU fans will find out when the Stanford game is final.
6. UCLA (3-1, 0-1): The Bruins struggled at Stanford, but are in good shape overall if they can make a quick turnaround. A home win over the Ducks would give the Bruins a timely boost.
7. Washington (2-3, 1-1): The Huskies should have won at Notre Dame last week, so I’m not going to drop them to the bottom, but they have to come through against the Arizona schools or the season could spiral out of control.
8. Arizona State (2-2, 0-1): The Sun Devils gave up too many big plays against the Beavers last week and that doe not bode well for the rest of the season. The Sun Devils get a break this week with a game at Washington State and then a home game against Washington, so they could regain some momentum.
9. California (3-2, 0-2): Has the damage been done? The fall was swift and brutal for the Golden Bears, but as OSU fans know, a season can be saved. The team gets a bye week to regroup, then it’s a trip to Los Angeles to take on UCLA.
10. Washington State (1-4, 0-3): The Cougars have been so bad they haven’t had the chance to Coug It.
