Why OSU will win 8 or more games (a theory) Comments

I’ve been thinking about the prospects for OSU’s football season lately and I have a theory based on the Beavers’ schedule and how good the team has been in recent years.

Everybody has been looking at OSU’s schedule and focusing on the fact that the Beavers have all their big games on the road. True enough, they do play at USC, Cal and Oregon. Maybe they lose all three. It doesn’t matter as far as my theory is concerned.

What I think is of the utmost importance is OSU’s home schedule. Particulary the Pac-10 games. The Beavers play Arizona, Stanford, UCLA and Washington at Reser. All of these teams are middle of the conference range or poised to get better. They could be trouble on the road, but aren’t as likely to be able to overcome a trip to Corvallis. That’s the key. The Beavers go 6-0 at home, defeat a weak Wazzu team in Pullman and get past UNLV and you have the eight wins.

Add one or two if the Beavers play well on the road.

Even if they stub their toes once at home, they have a decent chance at ASU, Cal and UO.

If a big rash of injuries hit OSU, that changes my theory. Then again, it always does. So there you go, eight or more wins in 2009 for OSU.

In theory.
