Crescent Valley boys off to fast start Comments
It was a good week for the Crescent Valley High boys basketball team as the Raiders went to Woodburn and came away with a 49-45 win over the Bulldogs to hand them their first Mid-Willamette Conference loss on Wednesday.
The Raiders then cruised past Dallas on Friday and sit at 4-1, tied with Woodburn and Silverton.
The Raiders’ lone loss came at Silverton in the second game of the conference season. Silverton’s lone loss came at home to Woodburn in the opener.
Corvallis and South Albany are right behind the top three at 3-2.
This week the boys go Tuesday and Friday with the girls Wednesday and Friday.
And on Tuesday both CV and CHS will have key games at home.
CV faces South Albany and can’t afford to stumble at home.
South Albany lost by seven at home to Silverton earlier and by two at Woodburn on Friday. The Rebels have already gone to CHS and earned a win.
The same can be said for the Spartans, who take on Silverton on Wednesday. A win and CHS is back in the hunt, while a loss could be damaging for the Spartans if they hope to compete for their third straight conference title.
Corvallis follows that up with another big game as they host Woodburn on Friday.
On the girls side, Corvallis hits the road trying to close out the first half of the conference season unblemished.
The Spartans, who held off a valiant West Albany charge on Friday night at home, take their 6-0 record to 5-1 Silverton.
The Foxes’ only loss was at West Albany last Monday.
If the Spartans can come away with a win, they would hold a two-game lead over Silverton and most likely West Albany, who is at winless Woodburn.
Dallas made a statement on Friday night as the Dragons went to Crescent Valley and came away with a win. That put the Dragons and Raiders tied for fourth at 3-3, a game back of West Albany.
Dallas takes on 2-5 Lebanon on Wednesday before getting another shot at Silverton on Friday. Dallas lost by seven at Silverton in the conference opener.
